Chairman of the Rugby Portland Cement Co., which has raised its profits from {£1.9m. in 1959 up to £3.6m. in 1963, he is a_ very politically-active director. He is president of the Rugby Conservative Association (He was educated at Rugby School too, one of the top private boarding schools in th country). He lives at Walton House, near Daventry, and also at the Dorchester Hotel in London. His club is the Carlton. He is a director of the Economic League, the aggressive employers’ organisation which spent £208,000 in anti - nationalisation propaganda in the period before the 1959 election.
