4 local travel agent, who also happons to be mayor at present, sent out invitations to a South African wine-tasting party. (These have apparently been held hore annually in the past, and are probably wide~ spread elsewhere). ‘then the student newspapers published an editorial attacking the party, the university authorities suggested that it was libellous, whereupon the editors agreed to publish an apology.

Before this apology was published, one student from the Labour Club (but without its backing) duplicated copies of the editorial. A copy of this was passed to the travel agent who thon threatened to sue. At this point the student also apologised. However an effective demon stration was held by about 40 people outside the hotel where the tasting of apparently not very good sherry was going on, The demonstration provoked extreme wrath among many of tho shorry drinkers, although one did comment that the agont was stupid to send out the invitation term—timee
