Some twenty workers in Bilbao, in the Basque province of Viscaya, Spain, were arrested for participation in a strike. They took part in a ten-minute work stoppage on 7th October, 1963, an action launched. in solidarity with the Asturian miners, as well as in protest of the failure to re-employ workers who returned from deportation after the strike. in 1962. The work stoppage was organised by various workors!' and youth organisations, including the Basque trade union federation STV, affiliated to the Internation.l Confederation of Free Trade Unions.
