The struggle of Italian engineers for better working conditions and wages which lasted for months and included several one day strikes ended on 18 Feb 1963 by an agreement signed between managemont and union representatives. Under the agreement more than 800,000 metalworkers will benefit from a working week reduced from 46 to 43 hours in almost all sqators without loss of payg an increase in basic wages from 10 to 12 %; and the introduction of a bonus of seniority equal to 1.5 % of wages which workers will receive after every two years of service.
