from a Lancs, reader Pressure from British trade unions has forced the United States! Governmet to drop its notorious "snti-strike" clause in civilian contracts at U.S. bases in Britain. On direct instructions from Washington, a new intustrial relations charter has been irawn up, The clause banned employment of anyone belonging to a union or organisation which would advocste strikes! Even the right-wing General and Municipal Workers! Union wes prominent in the campaign to get the clause thrown out. This union has members at the American base at Burtonwood, Lanes,, and was forced to lodge protests with the U.S. Embassy, In future, a?l thot will be required is that civilians working at American militany bases will he asked to sien a form agreeing by the general rules and regulations, About 800 workers are affected by this ruling, It is shameful that the Government, despite many requests, made no moves to put pressure on the Americans to reverse their anti-union regulations,
