The United Front Government of West Bengal decided this weekend to use force against a peasant revolt in Naxalbari. Police have been given full powers to use tear gas and shooting to crush the uprising. The U.F. Government includes members of the "left" Indian Vommunist Party. The rising is alleged to be led by expelled members of that group. (The Times 10th July)
