Some 180,000 miners in the Ruhr scheduled a strike for June 23rd. The demands include a pay increase of 8.5% and the inclusion of eleven Saturdays during the year to be considered as holicays with full pay. Thousands of foreign workers in the mines were re ,orted to have given full backing to their German brothers. As these demands were countered with the argument that the pits were "weconomic", the struggle merged into one for Government intervention by granting a subsidy. This policy, which is regarded as a cardinal sin by the "Free-Enterprise" loving West German authorities, was finally agreed to at the 11th hour.
