The chairman of the week-end school, Norman Atkinson, member for Tottenham, expressed the opinion that when a vote was eventually taken on this motion, it would show “overwhelming support" for withdrawl. Stan Orme, MP for Salford West, also spoke of the need to cut comm tments East of Suez, and expressed his fear that the present Labour Government "might go the same way as that of 1945."
