One of the most hotly debated subjects at this year's London Labour Party annual conference will be the position of Bob Mellish, year's chairm n, There are resolutions down expressing concern at his attitude on the immigration question, The controvers. was set off by Mr. Mellishts speech at the Blackpool conference when immigration was debated, Many delegates considered his speech had marked racialist undertones and at the conference a petition was circulated among London Labour Party Executive Committee members condemning the speech, In the opinion many people Bob Mellish ought to have resigned from his position due to the fact that he had opinions on a vital issue very far removed from those of the majority of his colleagues, It is important, however, to fight policies and not just call for the removal of indivuals and it is good to see that this is way the majority of the left in the London Labour Party view the matter.
