Despite the opposition of George Brown's Department of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Aviation has conceded in full a wage claim for 2,000 State airport employees. The workers, backed by their union, the TGWU, has thus won parity in pay between state airport employees and men working for the nationalised airlines who won substantial increases in April. The union based its claim on an agreement for "parity" between the two groups reached in 1957 with the Ministry of Aviation, This victory, which for some workers is worth up to £3 per week and is back-dated to March lst, follows a threat of a strike earlier this month.
