from Barbara Tarbusk Mr. John Chapman, 23-year-old Chairman of the Birmingham Federation of Young Seoialists has resigned from the Labour Party in protest against the vote at the party conference in Blackpool endorsing the Government's policy on immigration, In a statement issued on October 4th he said: "Like many other people in the party, I feel the Government's White Paper is a racialist measure," Mr, Chapman was also youth officer of Handswath Ward Labour Party and secretary of Hancsworth Young Socialists. He said he no intention of joining either the Libersi or Communist parties, He continued: "I am sorry to have to take this step especially at having to say good-bye to all my friends in the -Federation," Councillor Beardwood, the Federation's public relations officer said that the Federation as a whole had been opposed to the White Paper. "On the other hand, we do not think this is something you resign over," he continued, "We think this is somsthing you stay and fight," ADVERTISEMENT
