American Unions Boycott Petrol Firm

WO American oil workers’ uade

unions, the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers (OCAW) and the International Union of Petroleum Workers (IUPW) have started to boycott the products of Standard Oil of California. In a campaign they are urging their members, members’ families and sympathisers to return their petrol credit cards and to stop buying the company’s products. The “don’t buy” campaign exposes the firm’s refusal to grant employees a 44 per cent. wage increase and other benefits, gained by the unions during negotiations for a new collective agreement last year. Standard Oil of California is the only one of the major oil companies which did not meet the terms of the contract. The boycott has spread to California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and other western. states of the country.
