The old West Indies Federation (1958-1962) has now finally breken down into feur groupings: the new West Indies Federaticn with its capital in Barbados, the independent states of Jamnica and Trinidad & Tobaso, and British Guiana fighting for its independence. One important chanre in the announcement concerning the new Little Seven Federation is that income tax will now be a matter in the hands of the Federal Government. The details of the crucial question of a Customs Union and Free Trade Area are still to be decided. Nevertheless the tendency towards unification anong the West Indian people persists.
