One of the provisions of the Tory Rent Act of 1957, which is due to come into force on April lst, 1965, will place the living accomodation of thousands in jeopardy. During the war large numbers of houses were taken over by local authorities for bombed-cut families. In 1955, the Tories pushed through an act which handed back these properties to the original owners but which allowed the tenants to retain tenancy, Under the 1957 Act their security of tenure will end on April Ist, 1965, and the landlords will have the power to evict them. That the landlords will take this action in most cases is certain. Much of the property coticarned, especiaily in London, is in areas where speculators have been rife.

Over-200 tenants who hove this threat hameine over their heads have formed an essociation to demand rehousing and/or protection against eviction. They live in the Hyde Park ward of Paddington, end they have been active in the area. 1 meeting to explain the position and call for action has been announced for October 6th.
