Giving details of the scope of the civil rights movement in 1963, Roy Wilkins, executive secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People, said that noarly 2,000 civil rights marchos were held in 40U.S. states and the District of Columbia, 10,000 people, mostly Negroes, had been arrested at those demonstrations.
