Hard on the heels of the rejection by a mass meeting of the Port Talbot A.&.U. strikers of the TUC back—to-—work proposals, come. reports that the A.3.U. leadership is planning a national levy to back _the strikers. Undor the rules, it is argued, a 6a per woek levy of the union's one million members is permissible. This would bring in a total of £25,000 per weck — enough to pay each striker about £25 cach week, The most likely way this would be workod would bo for the payme=nts to bo made out of goneral funds and the levies to be collected at a later date,

Meanwhile a fund has been established by the local district committee of the A.E.U., which has already had a gonerous response from A.&.U. organisations all over the country. The address of the fund iss Mr, 2.7. O'Noil, district secretary, lfiid—Glanorgan, 131, “indsor Rd., Neath, Glamorgan.
