The Beja trial began again on April 23rd. On the first day, Manuel Serra, one of the main accused, said he had been severely beaten up and kept awake for 12 days and nights, The judge told him to shut up, that he was not tolerating political polemics in court. Captain Varela Gomes took full responsibility for planning the attack. Further, in a Lisbon criminal court 6 press photographers were sentenced to terms of imprisonment varying from 12 to 15 months for subversion. The Beja trial is due to last several months and over 1,000 witnesses are due to give evidence. There are 86 accused,
