As we go to press it appears that efforts are being made to establish 2 coalition Governnent in Laos without representstion of the Pathot Laos. Such a move, which appears to have buon the real aim of the coup, is fraught with dangers to world peace. The left-wing furces will not take this step lying down and it appears a resumption of the civil war is very likely. The U.S. Governuent is pledged to stop the spread of Conrmmmism in this area (that is, bolster up all the reactionary regimes) and may intervene. We in this country should: (1) make it impossible for the Tories to drag Britain into sone mad venture under SBHATO suspices; and (2) insist that the Labour Governnent will actively support efforts to bring sbout national liberation end social change in these countries.
