The number of new subscriptions and suhscription renewals received since January lst has been adeouate to meet our expenses in connexion with the first two issues. We are however, very disappointed at the number of new subscriptions which followed the mailing of a second copy of the first issue to all subscibers. Very few new subscriptions were entered as a result of this, and it is necessary to stress that hundreds of new subscriptions are necessary before THE WEEK becomes viable without assistance from donations. In other words, it will be necessary within the next few weeks to launch an appeal for funds unless a drive for new subscriptions is successfully carried out. Readers who wish to assist with this can be supplied with extra introduction copies, subscription forms, etc. Alternatively, and this is our major method of gaining subs., names and addresses stit to THE WEEK will be circularised with sample copies.

Rhis wock's issue contains a lerge amount of material on CND and the Peace Movement. Send us the names and addresses of people who are active in these spheres !

Readers in the Nottingham area might like to bear in mind that since THE WiEK commenced publication in its present printed form the amount of assistance requiredhas increased rather than decreased. Folding, addressing, indexing, letter writing, proof rending, commuting to and from the printer, these are all jobs which need doing weck after week on a regular basis. If you are able to help in any of these respects, a phone call to Nottingham 52909 will put you in touch with the work. There are two ways in which readers cnn help THE WEEK: HANDBOOKS AND ADDRESSES. -

Our list of addresses of left socialists throughout the country who have received sample copies of THE WEEK is very large and we are > anxious to make it as comprehensive as possible. In addition to mailing sample copies, these addresses are needed for other purposes, such as the calling of a meeting in a particular town. Handbooks, published by Trades Councils and Regional Labour Parties are very useful, as are those published by such organisations as the local branches of Council for Social Services and Students' Unions. We will be very glad to receive such lists of addresses. LIBRARIES. "Sa

A substantial number of libraries in all parts of the world subscribe to THE WEEK Such subscriptions are extremely uscful and readers can assist by asking their local library to subscribe. A combined ‘official’ and personal approach is necessary in most cases. A random mailing of librerics results in a 2% response. Working with the co-operation of readers, this could be as much as 50%. Overseas readers can particularlry help in this respect by ensuring that a copy is recived by their National Library and leading institutions for political study. It is likely that the British Council will subscribe (they maintian a large library of English Language books in every foreign capital) if personal requests are made. Keep Us posted.
