The Equal Pay and Sex discrimination Acts prombed women equality and independence. Over two years have passed and womens richts are still under attack. Women in unions and women's movements are fighting back. In many unions, women's rights com mitlees, women's groups and women's conferences are discussing how to take up a real fight for equality and independence.
These activities would he strengthened be a national newspaper aimed at the trade unions. The paper would draw topether experiences and discussions from different unices and campaigns and mobolse hread support for particular strugeles.
Ar its recent national cunference, the Working Womens Charter Compaien agreed to turn over its newspaper to this task!
The newspaper is procutly committed tor a felt around the 10 demands of the Working Women's Charter drown up ly London Trades Council in 1974. These demand. draw together the main aspects of womens strugeles for independence and equality The Charter has been adopted by fouricen national unions, many union branches, trade councils, community and women groups A newspaper based on a fight for the demands of the Working Womens Charter would tap this support and take up the brooder isues raised by the Charter. The Charter Campaign has issed a call for a national conference in the spring to bunch this new paper, The conference is open to all memher of unions women's groups and campaigns who see the need to cordinate a fight around the demands of the Working Women's Charter.
