Scottish Socialist will be a campaigning journal produced by SLP members and dedicated to informing and educating the labour movement on every aspect of resistance to the attacks of the government and the betrayals of the labour leaders.
First and foremost we aim to inform. We will report the struggles taking place in Scotland and give a mouthpiece to those involved which they cannot find in the Tory and Labour press. We will provide a, forum te judge and evaluate the experience of struggle. We will explain and report what goes on behind the scenes: the wheeling and dealing in council chambers, in the clubs and boardrooms of the wealthy.
We aim to educate: to provide basic socialist arguments for the job of explaining why and how a fight back should take place, why and how an alternative can be created. We aim to expose the underlying causes of inflation, unemployment and oppression,
to reassert the teachings of Maclean and the early Scottish socialists on the workings of the capitalist system. aim to provide analysis debate on the issues confronting the movement in Scotland. Our pages will be open to discussion and comment on all aspects of the political and social scene, spectrum of views to be found in the SLP and the broad labour movement.
We will take a stand on the basic Scottish Socialist will stand control and for a planned socialist nationalisation of private property. It will stand for world socialism and the international solidarity of working people. It will stand up for the rights of the oppressed: for women and for racial, sexual and national minorities. Scottish Socialist will support every fight against capitalism and its effects. And if is committed to the democratic self-organisation of the workers'
movement and the whole of society. These are its basic principles.
As a socialist journal appearing in Scotland it is incumbent on us to take a clear stand on the national question. We uphold the right of Scotland to self-determination, and hence its right to an elected government. We recognise no higher authority than that of the Scottish people in determining the powers of the Assembly.
But our journal will be open to all opinions within the broad lab our movement whether or not they are in agreement with our editorial policy, and we welcome support and participation from wherever it comes. Our editorial stand is not intended as a noose to strangle discussion but as a beacon to guide it.
We are not an official journal of the SLP but, like Scottish Worker a journal reflecting particular views within the SLP. We fully support the SLP and will be giving the widest possible coverage to its activities and policies. We urge our readers to buy and support
the SLP's other publications. And if you agree with what you find here and want to help - join the SLP for a fighting socialist alternative.
