On Monday September 27th, a meeting of fifty people in Leith heard Eddie Milne, former Labour MP for Blyth, speak at the invitation of the SIP on the subject of corruption in the Labour Party. Eddie left the Labour Party after a fight on this issue and has formed a new political party in Blyth with strong local support and representation of the local council.

The meeting was a substantial success. Interviewed afterwards by Radio Forth, Eddie said he felt the fight he was waging was very similar to that of the SLP. At the meeting itself, he said that although the fight. for socialism would be carried forward by people ou side the Labour Party, no party could be clear about where it was going unless it was clear about its background. It was for this reason that he felt that in order to build a strong socialist party, it was essential to develop a serious analysis of the decline of the BLP and the growth of corruption among its ranks.
