A Lambeth correspondent reports: 1705 ‘Gor the last few months, Lambeth Trades Council has fought for the right of coloured people to uso the public bar at the “The George", Railton Rd., Brixton, The licenses, Charles Westcott, has flatly denied that he hs pub had exercised a colour bar, claiming that coloured people had been refused admittance on account of “their rewiy behaviour." The issue has been vigor= ously taken up by loading members of Norwood Labour Party, and at a final showdown which involved the prospective Labour Parliamentary candidate, John Fraser, a West Nigerian U.P., Mr. John Agbaza - the licensee of the pub apologised to Mr. Agbaza (who had been refused entry) - and Iir, Fraser said that “fr, Wostcott sincorely apologised to Mr. Agbaza, He said in future he would only ber the saloon to those who deserved it by their behaviour but he certainly reserved the right to ask people to loave if their standard of bohavior fell tele; what waa expected of then...”
