The N.C.B. have sought the agreement of the N.U.M. for voluntary . working on six Saturdays in November and December as a precaution against a shortage of coal if there is another severe winter. The Scottish jrea E,C. have discussed the matter at the request of ite members and decided against the idea, it its mesting on October 21st, the Scottish orea executive called for a national delegate conference to be held immodiately to discuss the question. It pointed out that during thse past two years the Scottish division of the N.C.E. had deliborately roduced output. to suit marketing demands and there wore redundant miners in Scotland.

The Scottish Colliery Enginemen, Boilermen, and Tredesmen's .ssociation are to advise their 10,000 members not to work on Saturdays during November and December, This was decided by the association's executive conmittea which also met on October 2lst. .
