from Fence News 4/10/63 ~ J0hn Dixo0n, a S0-year-old able soaman in the Royal Navy who holds pacifist viewa, has failed to secure relase from the Navy on'conscientious grounds. On Monday, Septomber 23, ho saw a conscientious objectors' tritimal tt he learned the following day that he would not be reloased by the Navy. On Wednesday, September 25, he was sent to the Far Bast.

On hearing that his appeal had been turned down, John Dixon wrote: "I will never again lift a finger to run the Navy." This means that once again he will have to go through long periods of imprisonment, tut this time it will be in the Far Bast....

John Dixon's case revenls the arbitrariness of military regulations, which make no adequate provision for consciontious objection, He joined up in 1958 at the age of 15 for 9 years. His engagement, therefore, ends in 1970. He told the Peace News reporter last June, that when you are 15 "you don't know your mind — 1 knew almost nothing about nuclear war."
