Hsinhue Report.

Thai and Malayan police units on the morning of March jist encountered the Malayan Pooples Armed Forces in the border area and a fisrce battle ensued, according to the Bangkok Post of April end. Prior to this, the border police of Thailand launched a "mopping-up" operation against the Malayan Peoples Armed Forces and two battles were fought.

The information department of the Thai Forsign Ministry in a statenent issued on March 3lst admitted that despite the intensified joint operations, the "suppression" of the Malayan Peoples Armed Forces "is not easy" because the latter were active in the mountains and forests along the border and had the support of the people, Since an agresment was secretly reached last February between the two authorities of Thailand and Malaya, for joint suppression and for freo crossing of the border by both sides on patrol,,the Thai authorities have adopted a series af suppressive measures in co-operation with the Malayan Federstion,
