400 girls defied their teachers yesterday and marched through streets near thoir School in Swansea on Thursday shouting "B > the Bomb" and "We don't want war}! In Walsall, 12-year-old Tanya Brayford got 75 signatures from fellow-school = children to a petition to Kennedy to "stop taking desperate action that would lead to a third world wer in which all Britaim! schildren would perish." fhe sixth forms at Slliott Comprehensive School, Putney~which has 2,000 pupils — have prepared a petition protesting against the blockade; already the najority of sixth-formers have signed it. A protest hunger strike ovir Cuba will be staged by 40 girl pupils of Chichostcr High School Sussex. They hope that all 300 pupils will refuse to eat lunch on one day next week.They are also asking other schools in Wsst Sussex to boycott the meal and send the dinner money to the Oxford Famine Relief Fund.On Friday the senior girls staged a protest mareh through Chichestere 60 Senior Acaflemic Staff protest. Professor of Sociology, DeVe Glass, of London School of Jconomics, Hamed in the following lottor signed 60 senior academic staff, addressed to the Prime liinister-"We the undersigned membors of the Senior Common room, deeply Alarmed by the imminent threat of global nuclear war over Cuba, call upon Her l ajesty's Government 1. To issue a declaration that Britian will not be drawn into this Russian-American conflict. 2.To use all its endeavours , jointly with other nations, to bring about a peaceful sottlement through the United Nations, 3.To seize the opportunity provided by this crises to bring about increased efforts for gensral disarmanont."A national to get signatures from Uniwsrity staff all ovsr the country has been launched.
