The Annual Report of tho Board of Trade for 1961 on Bankruptcics, otc. shows thet in 1961 the numbor of recoiving orders and administration orders in. England and Wales was 3,521 an inercase of 720 over 1960, The principal groups of trades and occupations affected were builders, rcetailors of hardware and clectrical goods, road haulage contractors, retail grocers, farmers, rotailors of motor vehicles and cycles, and directors and promoters of companics; those seven groups accountod for 1,457 failures. Discharges wore down (from 568 to 522) and prosocutions up (from 134 to 163). The worsoning of these figures is a genoral reflection of tho Government's oconomic policges (e.g. the credit squeeze) and a tightening up generally of ccecnomic conditions.
